A taste of India

In Curry by James Anstee

A Perthshire-based entrepreneur has seen sales of his premium frozen curries rocket since the beginning of lockdown, with his company’s monthly turnover more than doubling since the beginning of March. Award-winning Praveen Kumar Authentic Indian Cuisine by restauranteur Praveen Kumar and his team create authentic Indian curries that have been cooked for more than a decade at Praveen’s award-winning Indian restaurant Tabla, and subsequently at Praveen’s successful Indian Cook School, both based in Perth. The team of chefs use the finest fresh ingredients in the UK, coupled with spices imported from Praveen’s home village in Southern India. The meals are then immediately frozen to seal in the freshness and taste. Appetite for these authentically made curries has grown exponentially since the start of the pandemic in March, with customers all over the UK ordering the curries to eat in the comfort of their own home, re-creating that much-missed authentic Indian dining experience.

As well as delivering the frozen curries in a sustainable manner to numerous locations across the UK, customers can also buy the curries from an ever-growing network of independent stores, farm shops and delis around Scotland. Praveen Kumar, the founder of Praveen Kumar Authentic Indian Cuisine, comments, “We’re delighted with the success of the business to date, which really seems to have taken off during the pandemic as consumers look to recreate that authentic Indian dining experience, but in the comfort of their own home.”
